The Fish Police, a three-piece band hailing from South London, mix a strong 70s punk attitude with a hip-hop swagger and a dash of pop to create original tunes with edge.

The group is made up of Dean Rodney (rapper, co-songwriter), Matthew Howe (guitar) and Charles Start (keyboards, co-songwriter, background vocals).

Big music fans, their key musical influences range from Kraftwerk and Daft Punk to Bob Marley and Will Smith. They mix this with their love of computer games, cartoons, fast food and Japanese culture to create sounds that set them apart on the UK urban music scene.

The group first started working together at arts organisation Heart n Soul in 2003 as part of a regular music and drama art session that Charles co-led. They formed the group in 2005 after discovering they had a really strong connection with each other.

Since then the group have been writing songs and performing at venues and festivals across the UK including the Tate in Liverpool, the Liberty Festival at Trafalgar Square, Paradise Gardens Festival in Victoria Park and The Beautiful Octopus Club at London's Royal Festival Hall. In November 2010 The Fish Police performed at the Lincoln Center in New York after a impressing crowds with a show stopping performance at the decibel Showcase in Manchester.

Pioneering arts organisation Heart n Soul produces all The Fish Police’s music and is working with them on their first album, which will be completed later this year.

The group have lots of plans for the future. Charles wants the group to storm the UK festival circuit, Mat wants to combine his love of music and computers to produce a Fish Police video game and Dean wants Fish Police world domination!
